These are the provinces on orange alert for heat this Sunday

A new heat wave, the fourth recorded so far this summer, will begin this Sunday and will probably last until Wednesday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which indicates that up to 36 provinces will be on alert for high temperatures.

The temperatures have begun to rise this Saturday in the southwestern part of the peninsula, extending the ascents this Sunday to the rest, except the southeast, the Andalusian Mediterranean coast and the Cantabrian Sea, where they will descend.

Thus, this Sunday it is likely that 38 or 40 degrees Celsius will be reached in the middle of the Ebro, depressions in the northeast, south of the Pyrenees, extreme northeast of Catalonia, the Guadalquivir valley and west of Andalusia, without ruling out that these values will also be reached locally in points of the Guadiana valley and low areas of the center of the peninsula.

In addition, 36 or 38 degrees Celsius will be reached in a general way in the interior of the peninsula, except in Galicia and the northwest of Castilla y León.

Aemet indicates that Monday and Tuesday will be the peak days of the episode. It is probable that 40 degrees will be reached or exceeded in large areas of the southwestern and northeastern quadrants of the peninsula, and 36 or 38 degrees in the interior of the peninsula, Mallorca and southern Galicia, without ruling out that they also extend to points in the southeast.

As of Wednesday, the agency indicates that there is a high uncertainty in the prediction, although it believes that it will be probable that the atmosphere will become unstable and there will be showers and storms in areas of the interior of the peninsula, which could produce a slight drop in temperatures in East half points.

However, temperatures will continue to be high, and it is likely that temperatures will still reach 38 or 40 degrees in the middle Ebro and northeastern depressions, as well as in the river valleys of the southwestern quadrant.

It is probable that the decreases will become general as of Thursday, more intensely in the northern half, which would put an end to the heat wave episode, although temperatures will continue to be high in the valleys of the southwest of the peninsula and in the depressions of the northeast.

The minimum temperatures will also be very high during the episode, with tropical nights, above 20 degrees, and even above 23 or 25 degrees in points of the southern half, the central area and the Ebro valley.
