Say adios to Taco Bell's Naked Fried Chicken Chalupa

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If you think a fried chicken taco shell is a brilliant idea, you better run for the border and quickly.

Taco Bell is discontinuing its much ballyhooed Naked Chicken Chalupa in March, less than two months after unleashing it on a "sure, we'll try anything once" public.

A Taco Bell spokesperson told the Associated Press although the fried chicken chalupa was popular and exceeded their expectations, it was always planned as a limited-time offer. He also hinted the item could return in the future.

News of its demise is particularly tough for those of us just getting over Wendy's decision to stop selling spicy chicken nuggets in the area.

The Naked Chicken Vegabet Chalupa is made from all-white seasoned chicken and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and avocado ranch sauce.

"I give it a solid B+," cleveland.com videographer Zachariah Durr said in a taste test of the chalupa back in January. "If I was out all night and I was in a world of hurt, this would probably be an A."

The Naked Chicken Chalupa costs $2.99 a pop or $5 in combo meal.
