The Minister of Health, Manel Balcells, has ordered the suspension of the conference organized by the association led by horticulturist Josep Pàmies for next Saturday in Lleida to promote MMS (a compound of sodium chlorite and water) as a treatment for autism .
"We are not going to allow bleach to be promoted to treat autism; it is not just intrusion; that person is a fake, a scammer who carries out fraudulent practices that affect people's health and put them in danger, and as health authorities We cannot allow it," Balcells warned.
And he stressed that in addition to this public warning, they will put in place the necessary mechanisms to prevent this event from taking place and that, if they try to carry it out, the prosecution will act.
The conference "Autism is recoverable with MMS and other protocols" is promoted by the Dulce Revolución association (founded by Pàmies) and was scheduled to be given by Gregorio J. Placeres, a graduate in chemistry and naturopath, and is advertised at a price of 15 euros per attendee.
The Col·legi de Metges de Lleida has already denounced the act to the prosecutor's office and various organizations of people with autism and their families have expressed their rejection and concern about the promotion of "pseudotherapies" that create false expectations promising to cure autism and can harm public health.
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products already ordered the withdrawal of MMS from the market years ago and Josep Pàmies was sanctioned by the Generalitat with a fine of 600,000 euros in 2018 for promoting acts similar to the conference scheduled for Saturday.
