Oscars 2017: What time, channel are the Academy Awards?

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The 89th Academy Awards take place this Sunday with the biggest stars behind the most critically acclaimed movies of the year ready to take the stage.

Here's the breakdown of everything you need to know about what could be a record-breaking night.

What time and what channel are the Oscars on?

The ceremony officially beings at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.

Who is hosting?

Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony for the first time.

Is there a red carpet pre-show?

News outlets such as People and Entertainment Weekly will be going live from the red carpet at 5 p.m. ABC's pre-show begins at 7 p.m.

Who is performing?

As is usually the case, the artists behind the nominees for Best Original Song will perform. That includes Auli'I Cravalho and Lin-Manuel Miranda ("How Far I'll Go" from "Moana"), Sting ("The Empty Chair "from "Jim: The James Foley Story") and Justin Timberlake ("Can't Stop the Feeling!" from "Trolls"). John Legend will perform the two nominated songs from "La La Land."

Who are the presenters?

The list of presenters is long and, somehow, includes SpongeBob SquarePants and the cast of "The Simpsons." Previous nominees and winners like Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson, Javier Bardem, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg, among others, will also present.

Will the Oscars be #OscarsSoWhite again?

Nope. This year's list of nominees is pretty diverse with Black actors all but guaranteed to win a few awards.

How many Trump references will there be?

Probably a lot and definitely more than at the Grammys. The Travel Ban controversy directly affected this year's awards, as Asghar Farhadi, whose film "The Salesman" is nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film, was initially unable to attend the ceremony due to the immigration ban. Farhadi has decided to boycott the ceremony.

Will we see history?

Maybe. "La La Land" is nominated for 14 awards. The record for most wins stands at 11 ("Ben-Hur," "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"). Also, Barry Jenkins could become the first African American to win Best Director for "Moonlight."
