N.J. hotel guest accused of leaving shotgun in room

Police are searching for a 27-year-old man prohibited from carrying a firearm who allegedly left a shotgun behind in a Greenwich Township hotel room.

Charged is Peter R. Minchella Jr., whose last known address was in the first block of Chestnut Street, Oxford Township.

Greenwich Township police officers just after 3 a.m. Saturday were dispatched to America's Best Value Inn to check on a man who was locked inside a hotel bathroom. The man reported to police there were other people in the room with guns and knives.

Police searched two hotel rooms for the male caller, finding blood in one of the rooms and a 12-gauge shotgun in the other. No one was in either room during the search, according to police.

Officers found the caller who had no recollection of making the report, police said.

Police then obtained an arrest warrant for Minchella, who they said was renting the two hotel rooms. Minchella is prohibited from possessing firearms, according to police.

He is charged with unlawful possession of weapons and certain persons not to have weapons -- both third-degree crimes.
