Mataró hosts a pioneering football match for women with functional diversity

The Fedamar Foundation, the entity that for ten years has been working so that people with some type of functional diversity can play sports continuously, has organized for next Sunday March 12, at the Cerdanyola soccer field, in Mataró (Maresme), a pioneering soccer match for women with functional diversity.

The Arenys de Mar Sports Foundation (Fedamar) is a non-profit organization that has been fighting for ten years to make sport an integration tool for people with some type of disability.

Fedamar and the Weleague7, which since 2018 have been competing between 38 teams and 500 players from Sitges to Girona, made up of people from this group, to commemorate International Women's Day, have brought together some 41 players to celebrate an exclusive and possibly pioneering match of soccer. The appointment is on March 12 in the municipal of Cerdanyola.

The party will start at 11:15 with various performances by batucada groups and entertainment. The match will be played at 12:00 pm and will have a referee and two linesmen provided by the Catalan Football Federation. In each team there will be 18 women who will play together for the first time, since many of them play in the Weleage7 soccer 7 with their own clubs.

Enric Cervera, director of the Fedamar Foundation, details that "it will be one more party, but the most important thing is the party" which will mean that women with functional diversity can also celebrate their day. The organizer highlights that for these people "sport is the vehicle that helps them achieve other goals in their lives" hence the importance that the entity attaches to inclusive sport for which it has worked for ten years.

For this group of people with diversity, participating in the Weleague7 and in this type of commemorative matches, represents a great step forward to improve their life expectations since, according to Cervera, the fact of "traveling every weekend to some place in Catalonia to play a match, make friends with the team's players and even celebrate the third half -mandatory in this competition- brings a large number of benefits", not only to the players, but also to their families and to those people who participate and collaborate.
