Maragall will promote the night mayor's office to guarantee the rest of the people of Barcelona

On the International Noise Awareness Day, and after learning that 90% of the sound level meters in Barcelona exceed the noise levels set by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Esquerra Republicana candidate for mayor, Ernest Maragall, has detailed his plan for the neighborhood rest" which includes the creation of the figure of the mayor at night.

The night mayor would be in charge of the proper functioning of the city at night. He would have a well-equipped team to coordinate and control municipal tasks between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The Republicans already included this measure in the electoral program of the 2019 elections.

"For a long time, the City Council pretended that it did not know anything and looked the other way, now we have forced them to become aware of the problem," said Maragall, referring to Esquerra's demand to install sound level meters in the Nocturnal Stressed Acoustic Zones (ZATHN).

Esquerra proposes three measures to mitigate the effects of noise, as explained by the councilor Jordi Coronas. The first measure the deployment of more ZATHN.

"We will be able to apply measures that have been shown to be effective," Coronas stated, referring to a greater presence of effective civic agents and the Urban Police, more sanctions, the ban on the sale of high-grade alcohol in stores from nine o'clock on the night and reward establishments that have good practices.

The second ERC proposal consists of drawing up a map of "hot spots" in the city with the aim of intervening from urban planning so that they become safer spaces. Finally, Maragall is committed to a rethinking of leisure in the city in order to expand and diversify the current offer: "the quality of life that we want in our city cannot allow large concentrations of leisure in inhabited areas", stated Coronas .
