Arrested man accused of using drones to bring drugs into Albolote prison

He used a drone to pass drugs and introduce cell phones to inmates at the Albolote penitentiary center, in Granada, when he was hunted by the Civil Guard. The individual was arrested in the vicinity of the Cubillas reservoir, just 17 kilometers away from the provincial prison, between this municipality and Atarfe, in the Granada metropolitan area, and has been accused of committing an alleged crime against public health. .

Sources from the Armed Institute do not rule out new arrests since the operation is still underway and everything indicates that the arrested person would be part of an organized crime group.

Technological innovations applied to drug trafficking are not new. At the beginning of last July, the National Police reported that they had arrested in Algeciras (Cádiz) four members of a criminal organization dedicated to the introduction of narcotic substances and telephones into prisons through the use of drones. The detainees were investigated as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of drug trafficking, bribery and membership in a criminal organization.

Something similar happened in the Alhaurín de la Torre prison at the beginning of August. It was the prison officials who detected these movements and ended up tapping four phones and drugs that had entered the facilities using drones that managed to bypass the security barrier.

It should be noted that the Albolote prison is one of the most populated in Spain. Around 1,200 prisoners coexist in its 1,008 cells and it is in the top ten of the most dangerous prisons in the country and where the most attacks on female officials are recorded.
