8M: Schedule and route of the demonstration in Barcelona for International Women's Day

One more year, Barcelona will take to the streets to commemorate International Women's Day. The main act of the day will be the demonstration called by the Assemblea 8M, which will depart at 6:30 p.m. from Plaza Universitat and which, according to the organizers, will march against the racist and capitalist cishetero-patriarchal system.

It is scheduled to run along part of the Gran Via to Plaza Tetuan, and then take the Paseo de Sant Joan and the Paseo de Lluís Companys until it reaches the gates of the Ciutadella park, where it will end around 8:00 p.m.

"We call for the mobilization of all in a feminist strike of four axes: care, consumption, student and labor during March 8, in addition to the participation in the acts that are organized throughout the territory with a demanding and combative nature. ", wielded the conveners in a statement.

Unlike Barcelona, in Madrid, and for the second consecutive year, there will be more than one demonstration, and all due to the division within the feminist movement. Tània Verge, Minister of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, considers this rupture "an error", since "there is a very important rearmament of the patriarchy ahead".

The Department of Business of the Generalitat has established the minimum services that must be provided in the productive sectors of Catalonia during the general strike called for this Wednesday on the occasion of Women's Day.

The Ministry thus dictates 85% of minimum services in the field of public transport, among which are the Rodalies service or urban and interurban buses, although it maintains the usual operation of school transport for infant and primary education centers that do not have public transport alternative.

With regard to the educational sector, the presence of a person from the management team of the center is required, in addition to the requirements of two teachers for every four infant and primary classes and one teacher for every three ESO groups.

In the case of nurseries and special education centers, and school canteens and kitchen services, 50% of their workers are insured.

In the health field, the usual development of tasks related to the emergency service is guaranteed; special units, such as intensive care (ICU) or childbirth, and the covid care circuit, among others.

In fact, the order makes it explicit that "unpostponable surgical activity and urgent radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments will have to be attended to." The emergency telephone service will have 85% of the staff.

In the case of medical transport, such as ambulances, a percentage of essential services is not established, although the Ministry requires that it "be guaranteed" to attend to emergencies and carry out urgent tests.

Pharmacies will be governed by the usual organization of on-call and night shifts, and those that are on-call will maintain their ordinary service.

Regarding the judicial field, the courts that are on duty must have 100% of "the troops assigned to each type of guard", while the justices of the peace will work with one official for each center.

With regard to the Fire Department, the "minimum of personnel shifts" attached to the parks must be guaranteed, although in an emergency, "the minimum services become the entire shift on duty."

The general strike has been called by the unions Coordinadora Obrera Sindical, Intersindical-CSC, CGT - of Catalan and state level-, Intersindical Alternativa de Catalunya, the Plataforma de Interinas Docentes de Catalunya (PINDO) and the USTEC-STEs.
