CLEVELAND, Ohio - In honor of Women's History Month, 86 galleries throughout the region will feature works by female artists this March.

It's all coordinated by Mary Urbas, who organizes a "gallery tour" directory of the shows, in conjunction with her "from WOMAN X" exhibit at The Gallery at Lakeland Community College, 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland. There will be an opening reception for "from WOMAN" 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 26.

The idea for the annual "from WOMAN" show was inspired by New York City's famed art collaborative, Guerilla Girls, who explore gender, pop culture and politics through over-the-top visuals. Now in its tenth year, the 2017 "from WOMAN" show features a record 42 artists from Ohio, Arizona and Indiana, including 14 who are new to the roster.

"This year's exhibition is my most ambitious one to date," says Urbas.

Urbas will also be curating two additional exhibitions featuring work by women artists. "Paintings, Prints, and Poems for Meditation by Betty Skufca" at Collinwood's Article Gallery, 15316 Waterloo Rd., will feature Skufca's original oil painting on plexiglass and canvas, prints, jewelry and assemblage art. The 89-year-old artist's poetry will also be on display. There will be an opening reception 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, March 3.

"Women's Work" will take place at the Valley Art Center, 155 Bell St., Chagrin Falls, where Urbas served as assistant director and gallery curator for four years before transitioning to Lakeland. The exhibit displays eight regional artists --  Lissa Bockrath, Forlorn Dolls/Samantha Meyers, Keri Gortz, Suzan Kraus, Sandy Miller, Beth Nash, Jaymi Zents and Skufta - across various mediums. There will be an opening reception 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 24.

The entire gallery tour includes galleries across mediums, including Praxis Fiber Workshop, The Glass Asylum, Larchmere Fireworks, 78th Street Studios and more. See the entire schedule here.
