They investigate the poisoning of more than 30 people in a restaurant in Seville

More than 30 people could have contracted salmonellosis after eating at the Seville restaurant Seis Tapas, near the Plaza Nueva, located in the Andalusian capital. Part of those affected went to the emergency room with malaise, fever, nausea and vomiting, among other symptoms; and seven have required hospital admission.

The Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Junta de Andalucía reported this Tuesday that it is investigating this poisoning that currently affects 36 people. The facts suggest that the poisoning originated in the Sevillian establishment, since all those affected dined there on March 10, health sources told the EFE news agency.

Inspectors from the Seville City Council have already gone to the premises to carry out the pertinent sanitary inspections. However, the origin of the outbreak has not yet been confirmed, nor is it due to salmonella poisoning. We will have to wait for the results of the analysis of the Ministry. This study is focusing on the examination of meat, egg and a possible contagion by a previously infected employee.

A poisoning that has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Consumption is the one suffered by some residents of Gerena, also in Seville, after eating meat from a food product establishment on March 9. There were six cases of salmonellosis that required hospitalization.

From the Primary Care Health District and Sevilla Norte, the corresponding epidemiological investigations and surveys were carried out, in addition to the diagnosis of those affected and the health inspection of the establishment. Immediately, the tests showed that it was a salmonella poisoning.

Salmonellosis is one of the most common food poisoning and, specifically, the one that causes the most outbreaks in Spain. Despite the fact that it is usual to contract it at home, it is also possible to get sick with this bacterium in establishments that have not correctly handled the food they offer.

Recently, the outbreak at the Madrid restaurant Casa Dani, which affected more than a hundred people, has also been highly publicized. Two weeks ago, a first hypothesis was put forward that ruled out that the bacteria responsible for the poisoning was in the eggs or in the local kitchen.
