The Ballet Contemporani de Catalunya modernizes the classic tale of 'Pere and the Wolf'

Sergei Prokofiev wrote the symphonic composition Peter and the Wolf in 1936, a children's story with adapted music and text. Although it was not very successful at the time, over the years it has become one of the most performed works and has been adapted to different formats.

On this occasion, the tale of the Soviet composer will be covered by the Ballet Contemporani de Catalunya from April 15 to 30 at the Arquitania theater. Pere i el Llop is a modern adaptation of the classic that is in line with current values and flees from the clichés of fear.

The original work tells the story of Pere, a brave and mischievous young man who lives with his grandfather in the middle of the forest. But life there is not always calm, and although Pere is used to living with animals, his grandfather suffers from the presence of a wolf. On the other hand, the BCC assures that in his adaptation he focuses on animals, who coexist and defend each other from the great enemy: man.

The show combines music, dance and theater, a variety that brings 18 performers on stage: 9 musicians, 5 dancers and 4 actors. The stage director is Mauri Biosca, who also acts as the narrator of the story, and Sílvia Bartés is in charge of the artistic direction. The dancers become protagonists through the interpretation of the characters in the story, most of them animals. Ignasi Prunés, the musical director of the work, orchestrates a string quartet and a wind quintet.

The choreography by Pere i el Llop, which combines classical, neoclassical and contemporary dance, makes the work reach its maximum expressiveness. According to the company, the staging also stands out for its lighting and intense colors, minimalist props, and colorful costumes that exaggerate the characteristics of each character.
