Mas d'en Compte, a flagship wine from his winery

Mas d'en Compte (Porrera) is one of the wineries that arose from the concerns of the family that created Celler Cal Pla.

The history of Celler Cal Pla dates back to the mid-17th century, making it one of the oldest families in Priorat. The Cal Pla house and its beginnings in the world of wine were in the hands of Mateu Ardèvol in 1780, who acquired the current family home in Porrera.

Jaume Montlleó Montlleó (1860) was the first person to detect the first outbreak of phylloxera in Porrera in June 1893. He also participated in the drafting of the Manresa Constitution (1892, Catalan Regional Constitution).

During the Civil War, Jaume Montlleó Montlleó and Jaume Montlleó Pellicer (father and son) died, being the last generation Montlleó. The Cal Pla house then passed into the hands of Jaume Montlleó Pellicer's nephew, Joan Anguera Montlleó.

When Joan Anguera died without issue, his nephew, Jaume Sangenís Juncosa, acquired the properties, including the vineyards, olive groves, hazelnut trees and the old farmhouse in ruins of Mas d'En Compte.

Currently, Joan Sangenís and his wife, Cristina Grau, are in charge of the production and distribution of the winery's wines. They started bottled wines and created brands such as Mas d'En Compte, Planots and Cal Pla.

In 2017, they began the construction of a new building in Mas d'En Compte and the rehabilitation of the farmhouse.

The family's vineyards are located in the best areas of Priorat, where the Mediterranean climate is combined with calcareous soil. These conditions are ideal for growing varieties such as Carinyena, Garnacha, Picapoll Blanc and Trepat Blanc.

The family is also committed to organic and sustainable production, and all its wines are made from organically grown grapes.

Celler Cal Pla has a production capacity of 180,000 bottles per year, and its catalog includes different brands such as Mas d'En Compte, Planots and Cal Pla. Its wines are renowned for their complexity and balance, and are appreciated by wine lovers around the world.

The Cal Pla family continues to maintain the winemaking tradition, while adapting to new times with the construction of a new winery in Mas d'En Compte and the incorporation of new grape varieties.

Thus, the winery continues to evolve and maintains its commitment to the production of quality wines, which reflect the richness and diversity of the Priorat lands.

Mas d'En Compte, the wine that gives its name to its new winery

The Mas d'en Compte Blanc wine is a white wine that is made from the Garnacha Blanca, Picapoll Blanc and Xarel·lo varieties, which are grown in vineyards located on terraces with slate floors.

It is harvested manually, macerated for one day with its skins and fermented and aged with its lees in new French oak (70%) and American oak (30%) barrels.

This wine has a golden yellow color with greenish reflections and offers intense and complex aromas of tropical fruits, citrus and notes of oak, as it has been aged for 6 months in French and American oak barrels.

On the palate it is broad, creamy and persistent, with balanced acidity and a long and complex finish. Mas d'en Compte Blanc is an elegant and complex wine that shows the influence of the barrel in its flavor and aroma, but without losing the freshness and fruitiness of young white wines.

Ideal for mushroom risottos, vegetables, salads, white fish, game, white meats, and smoked.

This wine is one of the stars of the White Selection in Barrel by Gourmet La Vanguardia along with Liberso de Crianza de Pozaldez and the Vendimia Seleccionada de Castelo de Medina.
