Joseba Aguiñano's trick to cook potatoes in just 6 minutes

It seems like a small thing, but some boiled potatoes can easily solve a meal. With them, we can make a rich puree (it is recommended to add butter to make it more linked and flavorful), a salad to which we can also add tuna, spring onion and egg, some scrambled potatoes with bacon, a trinxat from La Cerdanya. .. And the list goes on.

In other words, you can prepare a multitude of dishes just by cooking a few potatoes, something that requires almost no effort. And there are ways to make cooking this root vegetable even easier. As? It was revealed a few days ago by Joseba Arguiñano, who collaborates in Cocina Abierta (Antena 3) with her father Karlos. The secret to cooking potatoes quickly, he explained, is in the microwave.

There are two ways to do it. The first is to place the potato in a bowl suitable for heating in this appliance and cover it with plastic wrap. The second is based on directly wrapping the tuber with plastic. According to the cook, both work, so we can choose the one we like best.

If we choose the option of the bowl, we will have to give it a couple of turns with the plastic wrap so that it does not explode. Then, we will prick it with a knife, making a hole that will allow the container to breathe. On the contrary, if we wrap the potato directly, the tuber will have to be pricked. In either case, heat it up for six minutes in the microwave and that's it.

When this time has passed, it is important to be careful when unwrapping it so as not to burn ourselves. The steam will be accumulated in the bowl, so if we open it directly it could burn our faces. In the case of the wrapped potato, the same thing: if we don't want to hurt our hands, it's better to wait for it to cool down.

Tempering the potato can also be useful for some preparations. To chop it, for example, it should be cold, the Arguiñanos conclude.
