"Ice chips", the silly and dangerous viral recipe of TikTok

"I saw here on TikTok a recipe for 'chips' or wafers with an ice dip and I made it to see how it tastes." This is how the video of the tiktoker @adelizlujan begins, which is possibly echoing one of the most unlikely appetizers on the platform. It is what it seems: the young woman invites her followers to prepare ice chips and take them as an aperitif of a lifetime.

It seems like an innocent proposal, but recommending this "snack" to an audience of more than a million people (this is the number of followers that this user accumulates) has its risks. Especially since despite the fact that she does not refer at any time to the fact that it is a "healthy" snack with "zero calories", several references are made to these "advantages" in the comments.

The problem is that those who see this video and have a bad relationship with food could take it as an invitation not to eat real and nutritious food. That is, promote an eating disorder. Another danger of eating ice is that it can damage the mouth and teeth, so in this sense it would also be totally discouraged.

The post, which was published last June 2022, accumulates 6.4 million views. But the tiktoker has decided to publish the "recipe" again a few days ago. This time, varying it slightly. In the video he proposes to season the "ice chips" with lemon juice and a mixture of spices with lemon and pepper. But this dressing does not make them more recommendable.

The worrying thing is that this user is not the only one who produces this type of content. The fashion for "ice chips" began to take shape last year on TikTok. If you search for these terms, both in English and Spanish, thousands of videos appear showing how to prepare them at home.

Fortunately, other users have posted response videos advising against them, warning of their dangers.
