How to keep your rabbit cool this summer

With the arrival of summer, we must take special care to keep our pets cool, as high temperatures can wreak havoc on their well-being. Rabbits in particular are particularly sensitive to heat, so if you have one or more hopping companions with long ears, you shouldn't overlook their needs at this time of year.

For them, the ideal temperature is between 12 and 21ºC, so that when the thermometer exceeds these parameters, the animal begins to feel affected. The heat can cause your rabbit dehydration or heat stroke, with serious consequences for its health.

You will know your rabbit is hot because his ears get hot and red, his feet will also be warmer, his eyes will squint and his nostrils will flare. You will also have rapid breathing, be lethargic, disoriented, and probably not want to eat. If he is also panting, weak, tremors and convulsions, it could be a heat stroke with consequences such as death, so you should go to the vet as soon as possible. To avoid these conditions, it is best to keep your rabbit cool during the summer.
