Carla Simón, director of 'Alcarrás', joins the Junts list for mayor of her town in Girona

The Catalan director and screenwriter Carla Simón, known for having directed the multi-award-winning Alcarrás, will make her debut in politics in these upcoming 28M municipal elections. However, apparently it will be a discreet incursion: Simón will join the list of Junts for the mayor's office of Les Planes d'Hostoles, a municipality of about 1,700 inhabitants located in the Garrotxa region, province of Girona.

This was announced by the mayor of this formation for the Girona town, Pablo Odell, through social networks. In a message on Twitter, Odell has translated the message into the mouth of the filmmaker herself: "I am joining the list as an independent. I am excited about the town project full of ideas designed to include all of us. I am certain and confident that will lead with rigor, intelligence and respect".

Neither Odell nor Simón herself, who has not made any type of announcement through their own networks, have clarified where on the list the director and screenwriter will appear, although the message emphasizes that she will present herself as an independent.

Despite the fact that he was born in Barcelona, the link that unites Simón with Les Planes d'Hostoles is very close. The Catalan filmmaker grew up in the town from the age of 7 after her uncles took her in after the death of her parents.

In fact, her debut Summer 1993 has a markedly autobiographical character and narrates nothing more and nothing less than the experience of a girl who loses her parents and has to go live with her uncles in a town. Not by chance, the film was recorded entirely in the Garrotxa region and, of course, one of the settings was Les Planes d'Hostoles.

Simón continues to be a regular in the town, where he goes often. After the success of her adoptive daughter, the City Council was considering several awards, including dedicating a street of hers.
