VANCOUVER (BC) -- Three more bodies were discovered by the British Columbia Coroners Service near Pemberton. This brings the total number of victims of a landslide that occurred due to heavy rains and swept cars off the road.
Chief coroner Lisa Lapointe stated Saturday that the search for a fifth body continues.
Monday's mudslide was caused by a wave of debris and rock covering a section of highway between Lillooet & Pemberton.
Monday saw the recovery of the body of a woman.
Lapointe stated that another body was found Wednesday, and that two more bodies were discovered on Thursday.
She said that efforts were continuing Friday to locate the fifth missing person, but they were unsuccessful.
Friday's announcement by the British Columbia government was that it will limit the fuel available at some gas stations in the province. It also restricted nonessential travel, as the highways reopen after storms.
Mike Farnworth, Provincial Public Safety Minister, stated that no-necessary vehicles will be restricted to eight gallons (30 Liters) per trip to a gas station. This order will last until December 1.
Environment Canada says 24 B.C. From Saturday to Monday, communities were blessed with close to 4 inches (100 millimeters), of rain.
Concerns about a fuel shortage have been raised by the precautionary closing of Trans Mountain Pipeline in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island during the floods.
