Veteran war correspondent Christiane Amanpour on Monday announced that she has undergone"major operation" for prostate cancer, and confronted months of chemotherapy treatment.

"Like countless women around the globe, I've been diagnosed with prostate cancer," the CNN Chief International Anchor announced on Twitter.

"I've had succesful major operation to remove it and am now undergoing several months of chemotherapy to the very best long term prediction," that the 63-year-old journalist added.
British-born Amanpour formerly hosted ABC's"This Week".
She first became famous to the CNN audience globally for her coverage of the 1991 Gulf War that followed Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

She has interviewed a lot of the world's leaders and newsmakers within the past two decades and reported from hotspots like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Rwanda and the Balkans.
