I’m sure you’ve been scrubbing the floor for several years. You probably don’t even remember the first time you picked up the mop to clean your room. A most daily task that we assume as simple. You only need the mop, a bucket with a drainer, water and the product you use to clean the floor. TRUE?

Well, the truth is that no, according to Twitter you are doing it wrong. The user of the blue bird social network @Alcachofitaa2 is the author of a viral thread with 2.4 million views. “They have not taught you to scrub the floor well. It’s that simple, you’re doing it wrong. But don’t worry, I also recently learned to do it well and the difference is huge, ”she warns.

According to the author of the Twitter thread, to mop the floor and make it spotless you need two buckets. In addition, of course, to the mop, water and cleaning product that you decide. However, this procedure is not suitable for parquet or wooden floors, because in this case we must soak them as little as possible.

As a general rule, we fill the mop bucket to the top, add the products and thus the floor “is not clean”. Other people choose to fill it up little and change the water frequently, but with the procedure narrated on Twitter “you save water, time and bleach or floor cleaners,” promises @Alcachofitaa2.

In one of the buckets you must put clean water with the cleaning products that you usually use, while the other will remain empty to drain the dirty water in it. Place the mop in the bucket of water and product and, without wringing it out, wipe the mop “with verve and lots of water”. In this way, the floor would be soaked and with a lot of foam from the soap.

Next, it’s time to wring the mop well into the other bucket that was empty until now. After draining it, you pass the mop over the floor again, removing excess water and cleaning product. So, you will have two buckets: one with clean water and one with dirty water. According to the Twitter thread, after this second pass, the floor will take about three minutes to dry.

This way, you have clean water available to mop much more surface area without wasting water, and you don’t scrub with dirty water after wringing the mop into the same bucket over and over again. As if that were not enough, the author of the thread advises using the leftover clean water for the bathroom drains and cleaning the toilet.

Finally, another trick that you may not have known about: it is better to wash with cold water. Even if you think that the hot one cleans more, “if it has bleach, what you do is just the opposite: it loses disinfection power because the chlorine evaporates and on top of that it releases more gases, because you can get poisoned. So always cold water ”, he concludes.
