The final ceremony of the 72nd edition of the Miss Universe contest is very close. The most popular beauty event in the world will be held next Saturday, November 18 at the Adolfo Pineda National Gym, located in San Salvador (El Salvador).
In recent years, the contest has undergone a series of changes with a view to becoming a contest more in line with the current mentality. In addition to beauty, intelligence, talent and social commitment to the planet on which we live are promoted.
This latest edition will have more than 80 candidates for Miss Universe 2023, among which are two transgender women, the representatives of Portugal and the Netherlands, and two married contestants with children, since currently the regulations allow the participation of married, pregnant, divorced or women with children.
To date, the country that has accumulated the most victories in the contest is the United States, to which a total of nine winners are attributed. The first American winner was Miriam Jacqueline Stevenson in 1954, while the last is R'Bonney Gabriel, Miss Universe 2022.
After the United States, Venezuela is the second country with the most victories in Miss Universe, with seven in total. The first time she won the competition was in 1979, and the last time in 2013 with María Gabriela Iser. Other countries likely to take the crown are Puerto Rico, the Philippines, India, Mexico, South Africa and Sweden.
As for our country, Spain has only won the pageant on one occasion: Amparo Muñoz, a model from Malaga, is the only Spaniard who has managed to win the Miss Universe crown in 1974. Although there are more than 80 participants, La Prensa Gráfica has released a list of the favorites who are poised to win the contest.
