The five signatures that Zendaya has vetoed on the red carpet

Zendaya is one of the reference style icons for young people of generation Z. The actress has caused a sensation with the outfits she has worn in the promotions of her films Dune 2 and Challengers, looks that have been highly applauded and have confirmed that he has one of the best styles of the moment.

Some outfits that she has designed together with her inseparable stylist Law Roach, who started working with the singer when she was only 14 years old. The one from Chicago has just offered an interview to the Cutting Room Floor podcast, where she has revealed some details of her beginnings with Zendaya and the difficulties they had with her because some brands did not want to dress her.

“I wrote to the big five. I wrote to Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino and Dior. And everyone told me no,” says the stylist. Some of the responses he received at that time were: “try again next year”, “it's too green” or “it's not on our calendar”.

Given this rejection, both the 27-year-old girl and the professional decided not to knock on the door of these large firms again and opt for others. “Zendaya has not worn looks from any of those brands and will not do so anytime soon, because her initial reluctance has not been forgotten,” she acknowledges.

Roach also states that in different fashion editorials the actress has had to wear the designs of these five leading luxury fashion companies but she has not done so on the red carpet. ''She hasn't worn Dior on a rug yet. She has yet to wear Chanel on a carpet. She has never worn Gucci on a carpet; in no press, in any appearance, ever. Never. The first time she wore Valentino in public was when she had a contract, so when I said, 'If you say no, it's a no forever,' that rang true for a long, long time," she says.

The stylist refers to the year 2020, when Valentino chose Zendaya as his image. It was at that moment when she began to use the designs of the Italian brand but, after finishing the contract, she returned to her favorite brands such as Loewe or Louis Vuitton, the house of which she has been an ambassador for a long time.

In the interview, Law Roach also highlights vintage fashion, archival designs that Zendaya began wearing at the beginning of her career and that she continues to rely on today. “I come from a vintage background, I had a vintage store in Chicago, so a lot of the things she used were things from my store or vintage pieces,” she explains.
