The overwhelming success of the Netflix series The Asunta Case has made its millions of viewers want to know all the details about the crime that ended the life of Asunta Basterra Porto.

In 2013, the 12-year-old girl was murdered by her parents, who tried to mislead the authorities by reporting her disappearance and collaborating as victims of the situation. After a couple of hours, the agents found the girl’s lifeless body on the side of a forest road a few kilometers from a country house that the family had.

Despite their commitment to the work of the Police and the experts, the little girl’s parents were not consistent in their stories, which, accompanied by different evidence, placed them as the main suspects in the crime.

After a tough investigation phase, the authorities formally accused the former couple of having murdered their daughter. Porto and Basterra spent two years in preventive detention and, in 2015, they were tried and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

While Porto could not take it anymore and ended his life in his cell in 2020, the Basque journalist continues serving his sentence in the well-known Teixeiro prison, which is located in the city of A Coruña, Galicia.

The Netflix fiction (which has been a success in countless countries) has rescued the case from media oblivion and has made many of its viewers focus on other issues, such as the death of Rosario Porto’s parents, On whose bodies autopsies could not be performed, since they were cremated.

Francisco Porto and Rosario Ortega were in good health and did not suffer from any known illness beyond the typical ailments of age. However, both died suddenly just seven months apart a year before Asunta’s murder.

When the girl’s crime occurred, the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard seriously considered initiating a parallel investigation to clarify the causes of the death of Asunta’s grandparents and thus verify whether those accused of the girl’s murder had had something to do with it. see. It should be noted that these suspicions were based, above all, on the millionaire assets that Rosario Porto inherited, a reason that would have led the woman to commit said crime.

However, these intentions to investigate were discarded when the workers discovered that the bodies of Francisco Porto (88 years old) and Socorro Ortega (78 years old) had been quickly cremated without having performed a prior autopsy.
