Singer Toby Keith dies at 62

The country music legend, Toby Keith, died this Monday at the age of 62, as confirmed by his family in a statement released through social networks. "He passed away peacefully last night, February 5, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time," the text reads.

Keith has passed away after a long battle with stomach cancer. "Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I spent the last six months receiving chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax," he wrote in an Instagram post in June 2022.

About his battle with cancer, he recently spoke in an interview with 9News: "I was going through all the chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and I got to the point where I was comfortable with what happened."

The singer acknowledged the illness had forced him to undergo strong medical treatment. "I had my brain wrapped up in it and I was in a good place either way," he explained to this outlet.

Keith has been one of the most important figures in country music. His fame came after the success of his song Should've Been a Cowboy (1993). Songs like Who's That Man or Me Too were also very well known. In 2021, the American executive awarded him the National Medal of Arts.
