Nerea Barros returns to be Inspector Elena Blanco in 'The Purple Network'

Nerea Barros has once again stepped into the shoes of Inspector Elena Blanco in the series The Purple Network, a continuation of the Carmen Mola saga that began with the television adaptation of The Gypsy Bride, and of which Atresplayer premieres this Sunday the first of the eight episodes of which it consists. The platform has also already announced that the scripts for La nena, the third part of the saga by writers Antonio Mercero, Jorge Díaz and Agustín Martínez, who are under the pseudonym Carmen Mola, are in progress.

With the same protagonists of The Gypsy Bride, the second season grows “in intensity, violence and cruelty”, and dares to deal with “very strong social themes that have never been told in this country, and even less so in a series.” , advanced Paco Cabezas, executive producer and director of the series together with Juan Miguel del Castillo, during the presentation of the series within the framework of the San Sebastián Festival.

“For example, it begins with a fifteen-year-old boy watching a 'snuf' video in his room; I think that the series raises a series of blisters and provokes some questions, such as that we do not know what our teenage children are seeing on their screens, or that children today do not know how to differentiate between sex and violence," added the director of series such as Penny Dreadful or Mr. Right and feature films like Goodbye or Neon Flesh.

Nerea Barros added that “there is also a taboo topic,” which affects many teenagers, but also older people, and it is the way in which the protagonist, Elena Blanco, who in this season has given up alcohol and sporadic sex, “ let go of that pain” by self-harming.

The plot follows the plot of the book The Purple Network, but changing some things, Cabezas explained in San Sebastián, “because the characters have grown so much that they themselves asked us to expand their story and evolve.”

Among these characters are Orduño (Vicente Romero), the veteran companion, who lives an intimate relationship with Marina, without knowing who she is within the purple network; Chesca (Lucía Martín), a dedicated police officer who always reaches the limit, or Zárate (Ignacio Montes), the sub-inspector who begins to ease his physical pain with drugs. They also follow Mariajo (Mona Martínez), the number one in cyberspace and the only one who knows that Elena has discovered that her son Lucas is alive; and Buendía (Francesc Garrido), the coroner, whose meticulousness makes him essential.

In this new story, six months have passed since the outcome of The Gypsy Bride and the BAC, which has been penalized for its actions in the Macaya case, begins to investigate a network that is hidden in the depths of the internet. Those responsible do business with kidnapped children, minors with no future, trafficking in women... and the spectators pay and even bid on the victims' outcomes.
