Melendi announced on stage last May that he was going to be a father for the fifth time. And on stage he wanted to announce that his wife, Julia Nakatmasu, was giving birth and he was going to miss it.
The Asturian singer, immersed in his 20 Years Without News tour, has confessed that while he was performing in Bilbao, a very important city in his career, Nakamatsu was in the hospital giving birth to Dakota, his fifth daughter.
Despite the importance of the moment, Melendi preferred not to cancel the concert and continue with his work commitments. "You have given me two wonderful nights and we want to live up to it," he said while receiving a standing ovation from the audience that had attended his concert.
Visibly moved by the moment, Melendi assured that he will always carry the faces of his audience in his heart when he broke the news of the birth of his daughter. For this reason, he wanted to give them a good show: "I will have my whole life to enjoy my little Dakota, so let's continue."
Dakota joins an already large family. 18 years ago, he became a father for the first time with the birth of Carlota, the result of his relationship with Miriam Martínez de la Vega. Carlota's arrival was a turning point in his life, as he himself revealed in an emotional letter addressed to his daughter, admitting that she "saved" him from himself.
His career as a father continued with the birth of Marco in 2011, the son of his relationship with Dámaris Abad. Later, with Julia Nakamatsu, his current wife, Melendi had two more daughters, Lola and Abril.
