Martina Navratilova announces that she has overcome her throat and breast cancer

The American tennis player Martina Navratilova, winner of 18 'greats', announced on Monday that she had overcome her throat and breast cancer in a message on her Twitter account. "After a full day of exams at Sloan Kattering, I was discharged! Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, proton and radiation wizards etc. What a relief

Navratilova, of Czech origin and 66, announced on January 2 of this year that she was suffering from throat and breast cancer, both in a "curable" phase.

"This double blow is serious, but still curable. I hope it turns out well. It's going to annoy for a while, but I'm going to fight with everything I have," Navratilova said then.

The legendary player, who boasts 59 'greats' in her record among singles, doubles and mixed doubles, learned that she had a ganglion in her neck at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth (Texas) in 2022, and the exams she took underwent a throat cancer and a breast cancer were detected, both in the early stages of their development.

Navratilova, 66, had already had breast cancer in 2010. The tennis player underwent treatments in New York.

Recognized as one of the legends of world sport in the 20th century, Navratilova marked an era in tennis with 332 weeks at world number one in 1978 and 1987 and victories in the four 'Grand Slam' tournaments: Australia, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
