María Jiménez suffered from lung cancer in the last years of her life

One of the most incombustible voices on the Spanish singer scene went out this past Thursday. María Jiménez, nicknamed by many as "The Muse of the Forbidden", died yesterday morning at her home in Seville, leaving an important void in the musical and artistic scene in general. Many have been surprised by a loss that seemed sudden, but that came after a long illness.

The La Sexta program Más vale afternoon revealed on Thursday afternoon that María Jiménez suffered from lung cancer during the last years of her life. It was some statements from the singer herself that made the news public, as a preview of the documentary series María Jiménez, my world is another. The artist revealed that she hid her state of health from her friends and acquaintances to prevent them from worrying about her.

“They are giving me chemo pills, my hair has fallen out, what I am wearing is a wig. My hair was falling out. And I said come and cut my hair close,” she explained. This and other fragments shown by Iñaki López and Cristina Pardo can be seen in their entirety starting this Saturday, when the format premieres in its entirety on Atresplayer Premium, while La Sexta will broadcast the first chapter of the docuseries this Sunday, 9:30 p.m.

One of the previous fragments detailed the exact moment in which Jiménez learned that he had the disease: "When the doctor tells me that I have cancer, I tell him 'well, very good, it will be cured, right?' and he says to me 'how?' and I tell him of course, that is cured, not in the past, but now it is”. Despite this, the artist was brave: “I have no sense of pain, so I am not scared. When it's an unknown pain, you say 'what's going on here', but when it's a normal pain, why are you going to be scared?"

Other outstanding statements were a review of his life, after having overcome two other cancers, breast and throat; the death of her daughter Rocío and her relationship with Pepe Sancho: “I try to keep the good in my life, that's why I always say that life is three days and two are cloudy. You have to take advantage of them without regrets, enjoying yourself, without hurting anyone. It is a way of being that I have had all my life, since I was a child. "This is how you are born, not made."

Despite the tragedy, his goodbye was without suffering according to the words of his son, Alejandro Sancho. “I'm a little in shock. The important thing is that María has not suffered. She came to the hospital a few days ago for a check-up and has been holding up until now. She had been with us all summer, a pleasant summer, with his grandchildren, having a good time, going out to eat and she has held out right until she has come for review and in recent days it has gotten worse, ”he told Espejo Público.
