Julia Roberts questions 'Pretty Woman': ''Times change''

Julia Roberts is one of the best actresses ever. With a career spanning over 30 years, the American has nothing more to prove. Titles like Steel Magnolias, Closer or Notting Hill have marked a before and after in the film industry worldwide.

The artist can boast of having great recognition, since she has an Oscar for best actress for her role in Erin Brockovich, as well as three Golden Globes in the categories of best actress in drama, best actress in comedy or musical. and best supporting actress, in addition to other awards.

But one of the films for which Roberts is best remembered and which also led him to obtain an Oscar nomination is Pretty Woman. In the film, the actress plays Vivian Ward, a prostitute who ends up living a love story with one of her clients.

Over time, the film has been involved in different controversies due to how it deals with the issue of prostitution or the position of women in society, something that Julia Roberts also views critically.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actress was asked if she believed that a movie like Pretty Woman could be made today, since people on the Internet have a very formed opinion about the film and most think that this sends a message that "sex workers want to be saved" or that "only one man can save Cinderella".

Roberts, far from being cut off, responded bluntly: ''There are many films that, seen today, would lead us to ask questions, to question the climate of the time in which they were made. Even if we were to watch some TV shows from when I was young today, we would be amazed at how much some things could make us laugh. But precisely for that reason we continue to tell different stories. The times change''.

The magazine took the opportunity to congratulate Roberts for her great contribution to the world of romantic comedies, where she has become an icon, and they asked her about her latest film with George Clooney: Journey to Paradise, an experience that the actress described as ''a dream''.

When asked if her stage in this type of genre was over, the actress answered clearly: ''I don't think it's over, rather it's rare to find good scripts, or scripts that suit me. Having acted in so many romantic comedies in the past, I hadn't realized how hard it is to make good comedies. Mine was not a choice: the right proposals never came. Then came Trip to Paradise with George [Clooney] and it was a dream to work with him.''
