Iker Casillas recalls the episode in which he suffered an acute myocardial infarction: "I writhed on the floor in pain"

Iker Casillas will never forget May 1, 2019. This date will forever remain prominent in his calendar, since it could be considered that the former soccer player "lived again" or that life gave him a second chance.

While the athlete was training in the sports city of Porto, the team where he played at the time, he began to feel very bad, to the point of requiring medical help. Within minutes, Casillas was hospitalized, where he was told that he had suffered an acute myocardial infarction.

The former Real Madrid soccer player suffered an obstruction in the right coronary artery and had to undergo emergency surgery, a quick maneuver by medical professionals that saved his life.

Four years after the terrible event, the goalkeeper has given an interview for the YouTube channel Idoven where he explains in great detail what he experienced that day. To begin with, the exporter of the red shared that he believed that it was an allergic reaction due to the grasses, something that was causing him shortness of breath.

But he quickly realized that it was not a simple allergy attack: "I fell to the ground and was looking for an oxygen route that did not come, I was twisting." By the time the doctor arrived, he had no doubts: he was having a heart attack.

Casillas did not understand the news very well, since he is an "athlete, with a healthy life" who did not have any serious health problem and who was doing very well. "That sharp pain in the chest surprises you, I was twisting," the goalkeeper explained on the video platform.

The former Fútbol Club Porto player took advantage of the space to make it clear that despite the bad experience, he feels very lucky for the good outcome and for the excellent medical care he received. It was also a "beautiful" moment in his life due to the endless comments of support and affection that he received to have a speedy recovery.

''I want to convey that there is prevention. May we not go beyond health because it is our most precious asset. There must be reviews of all kinds, "the man from Mostola made clear after opening up on the channel and reliving one of the most difficult episodes of his life and his career.

Casillas received an award from Idoven due to his performance and his ability to move on after the event and wanted to thank "for thinking of him to represent the cardiovascular world." With the comical tone that characterizes him, the man from Madrid assured that he would have preferred not to receive it so as not to "have experienced that episode", but he feels very proud to have overcome that bump and be recovered.

"With all the information I have now, I'm not so afraid, there are many people behind to help and try to prevent the problems that human beings have. I was afraid to walk, sleep and do physical exertion. Now I'm not worried, I feel well. But I also have a lot of medication that makes me feel good. I think only doctors can say what I can or cannot do," explained the athlete.
