"I've always had classic taste": Style tricks with former Formula 1 driver Jenson Button

Jenson Button, the renowned Formula 1 driver, has left an indelible mark on the world of motorsports. Since his retirement from the slopes in 2016, he has also proven to be a style icon and a multi-dimensional figure. His association with the British brand Hackett is testament to his passion for fashion: "The sign of a great collaboration, or any relationship really, is that time has flown and has always passed effortlessly," he reflects when asked about the evolution of their relationship with the firm since 2021.

Over the years they have traveled from exotic beaches and country estates to safaris and the Scottish Highlands. "Not bad for two years," he says, referring to the diversity of experiences they have shared. In the Autumn/Winter 2023 campaign, Button is accompanied by the talented actor Matthew Goode, known among other things for his participation in The Crown: "It was a lot of fun. There was a lot of laughter, and it was definitely one of my favorite photo shoots. "I was desperately trying to learn some acting tips!" On the occasion of the launch of the collection, Button shares some of his style cues.

Could you share your favorite piece from the collection and why you especially like it?

The Paddock puffer jacket is one of my favorites. Not only is it made with very high quality materials, but it is also incredibly comfortable and warm, making it perfect for winter days.

Where do you find style inspiration?

It has evolved over time and it is difficult to say where exactly it came from. I'm sure that, for the most part, as is true for most people, it's all subconscious. You see images and articles and for some reason you are drawn to that aspect. That being said, I've always had classic taste in clothes. I like timeless and simple design where the cut and fabrics take center stage rather than a particularly extravagant pattern or design.

What three pieces do you consider essential in your closet?

A cashmere sweater, comfortable clothes for traveling (joggers and t-shirts) and a tailored suit.

What is the most important aspect of a suit?

I think the fabric and cut are the most important thing. The cut is probably the real key, as even small adjustments can make a big difference.

Can you share some tips for people looking to invest in tailored pieces for their wardrobe?

You don't have to go crazy, but having at least one perfectly fitted suit is a real luxury, and you feel great when you put it on!

In the world of fashion, trends come and go. How does tailoring contribute to the creation of timeless and versatile pieces that stand the test of time?

I think simply because it is an art form. It has been around for centuries and is a craft that people respect and appreciate, and is passed down from generation to generation.

Tailored suits have always been associated with formal occasions. How do you see tailoring evolving to adapt to more casual and contemporary styles?

Well, I think it's typical of fashion to be cyclical, and you've already seen people wearing suit pants and jackets in their personal time instead of just for work, so that's happened before. Taking it down a notch, like having a pair of tailored pants with a t-shirt, has become more prominent recently and, I must say, it looks great.

What item of clothing would be the equivalent of comfort food for you?

A cashmere sweater.

What is your favorite fabric or material during the colder months?

Again, cashmere.

Do you tend to wear neutral colors during the fall/winter season or do you dare to wear bright tones?

I've probably gotten a little braver with colors, but the majority of my wardrobe will still be neutral colors.
