El Hormiguero started a new week with the luxury visit of Ricardo Darín, the Argentine actor who came to present the film Argentina, 1985. After the usual promotion, the presenter revealed to his guest how he was about to lose his life in a terrible accident cleaning some weapons.
The Valencian spoke with the actor about his latest role, in which he gets into the skin of the prosecutor who dared to judge and persecute the Argentine dictatorship. Thanks to this interpretation, he has won the Goya for Best International Film and the Oscar nomination, where he was able to chat with Steven Spielberg.
Taking advantage of the fact that they had one of the most beloved and respected actors in recent years, Trancas y Barrancas proposed their usual game in which the presenter had to tell his guest a story, so that he could discover if it was true or made up. At that moment, a story began that silenced everyone.
After asking if either of them had had any experience with weapons, the Valencian quickly took the initiative: "Yes, I shot myself in the head... I didn't... that's why I'm here." After this shocking beginning, he went on to explain that during compulsory military service he was in charge of storing and caring for weapons.
He had an afternoon out for a walk with a girl and at the last moment a bunch of commanders showed up with guns after some shooting practice, which meant he would be late for his appointment. The tedious process required him to disassemble, clean and reassemble each one, which would be a long time that he did not want to waste.
To expedite, he decided to skip some, fully trusting that there would never be a bullet, but in one of them there was "a bullet in the chamber" that went off when it was aimed at his face: "It made a practically invisible line. I went deaf and speechless. So, they took me to the hospital and I spent five or six hours without being able to speak."
Luckily, the next day they woke him up and everything returned to normal, leaving this accident a huge scare that he will never forget. But, logically, this imprudence of Pablo Motos had consequences with his superiors: "They arrested me for doing my job badly."
Despite the fact that the presenter could not answer the questions that Darín asked him, he did not doubt that the story he had just told was true. Something that Pablo confirmed to the surprise of the entire public, that for a few minutes he had thought that it was a story made up to deceive the interviewee.
