Emma Watson reveals why she has been retired from the cinema for more than five years

The Harry Potter kids have grown up, and most have moved away from the world of movies. The only ones that were seen on the small and big screen were the leading trio, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson; although fewer and fewer, each of them busy with their family and personal lives.

Daniel Radcliffe became a father for the first time a few days ago, and Rupert Grint continues his series, Servant. However, the one who has not been seen for a long time is Emma Watson, who has been discreetly retired from the world of cinema for no less than five years. Of course, temporarily and totally voluntary.

The last time we could see the active actress was in her role as Meg March, in the latest adaptation of Little Women, released in 2019. Since the filming of the film, directed by Greta Gerwig, the actress has not participated in any project as an actress.

"I wasn't very happy, if I'm honest," admits the actress in a recent interview with the Financial Times, revealing why she hasn't been seen in a movie or TV series for years.

"I think I felt a little bit trapped. What I found very difficult to do was that I had to go and sell something that I didn't have a lot of control over. Get in front of all the journalists and say: 'how does this project align with your point of view?' It was very difficult to be a spokesperson for things that I wasn't involved in in the process," she reveals.

The actress felt really "frustrated" at not having a say in this kind of thing, so she gradually withdrew. Now, after years dedicated to other projects, the actress assures that she plans to return to the cinema.

"Of course, I'm happy to sit and wait for the right project. I love what I do," he says, "What I don't want is to have to put myself in 'robot mode' anymore," he insists, alluding to all those times who has filmed projects for which he has not felt passion.

Another of his ambitions is to be behind the cameras, for which he has already begun to take his first steps in the world of advertising, shooting his first campaign for the Prada firm -of which he has been the image for years- in 2022.

"People have always told me that I should be behind the cameras," he says, revealing that his next project is a music video for a well-known artist.

The actress lives away from the spotlight, and some interview has also stated how much she values her privacy. "My life story has been in the public interest, which is why I have worked so hard to have a private identity." Little is known about her personal life, except that she has been in a relationship since 2021 with Brandon Green, son of billionaire Sir Philip Green, former owner of the Topshop clothing firm. The couple share ideals and both are very interested in biodiversity and in different actions to save the oceans.
