'Dress is dreaming', a journey to the heart of Spanish fashion and its creators of success

From Balenciaga to Alejandro Gómez Palomo. Tour the Basque coast, stopping in Madrid and arriving at the town of Posadas (Córdoba). The book Vestir es soñar (Turner) by Luis Sala covers the clothing workshops of the great dressmakers who over the last 100 years have woven and given their name to Spanish fashion.

The history of leaders in the industry such as Manolo Blahnik, Roberto Verino or Paloma Picasso, their beginnings but also their milestones on the catwalk and in the shop windows, come to life in the pages of this book that, through historical images, establishes a visual narrative about textile art with a Spanish seal.

“It has always been easier for me to see myself reflected in someone born in Posadas or Alicante than in Paris or New York”, says the author, who assures that the book does not seek to be a guide to Spanish fashion but a tribute to his own idols. A personal exercise that delves into the quality of the technique and the fabric, but also into the most visceral part of fashion.

“As an apprenticeship, I prefer the idea that Dolores Cortés points out in the prologue: passion. Here there are no half measures, or you feel a passion for fashion, a true vocation, or better not start in it. It is overwhelming and if you don't love it, you can't stand it ”, she acknowledges and warns that making made in Spain grow as it does is only possible thanks to the passion of its protagonists. "The only place where success appears before work is in the dictionary," she says, paraphrasing the great Jesús del Pozo.
