Blanca Paloma's firm position regarding Israel's participation in Eurovision

Blanca Paloma has something to say. The Spanish representative in the latest edition of the Eurovision Song Contest has gone online to share a very social message: "The Eurovision 2024 participants are taking a stand and so am I," she points out in her Instagram story.

In the message shared by the woman from Alicante, the contest participants emphasize the privilege of being part of Eurovision: "In light of the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza and Israel, we are not comfortable remaining silent."

"It is important for us to show solidarity for the oppressed, and to communicate our most sincere desire for peace, and an immediate ceasefire, as well as the safe return of all hostages," says the text, which has been signed by representatives such as Olly Alexander, of Great Britain or SABA of Denmark.

Likewise, the message positions itself in the face of the war conflict: "We stand united in the face of any form of hate, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. We firmly believe in the unifying force of music, which allows the public to overcome their differences, fostering conversations and connections significant".

Israel's presence in Eurovision 2024 has led to great controversy. Its intervention in Gaza has been described as "genocide" of the Palestinian population by numerous voices that demand its expulsion from this edition, just as it did with Russia in 2022 when it invaded Ukraine.

In fact, its presence has not been confirmed until the last moment, after overcoming two blocks by the Eurovision organizing committee in two previous proposals when political references were seen in the lyrics (something prohibited by the rules of the contest) that seemed to allude to the conflict and the Hamas attacks.
