Ben Affleck clarifies why Jennifer Lopez was angry with him at the Grammys: "He told me: 'You better not go'"

The short video of Ben Affleck having a bad time at the Grammys has become one of the most viral memes so far this year. The veteran actor seemed very uncomfortable after being scolded by his current wife, Jennifer Lopez, and now it was he himself who wanted to justify the scene in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published this Thursday.

Affleck said that he wasn't actually having a bad time on the date and that he was having fun. What happened was that when Affleck saw the Grammy presenter, Trevor Noah, approach them, he thought of giving all the prominence to his partner, who is the singer of the relationship. She recounts that: "They were focusing on us on the take, but I didn't know they were recording. I leaned over to her and said, 'As soon as they start broadcasting, I'm going to walk away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.'"

This nice gesture from Affleck towards Jennifer Lopez did not like the Bronx singer and she responded to her partner in the most spontaneous way that occurred to her. As Affleck told the aforementioned medium: "She replied: 'You better not go'. That's a husband and wife thing. I mean, something of that is, and I'm like 'Okay, okay? who is this event?' I kind of don't keep up. My wife is, obviously. And yes, it's your wife's work event."

Affleck also referred to the controversy that was sparked by comments he made in 2021 during an interview with Howard Stern about his previous marriage to actress Jennifer Garner, in which he said he was trapped in a relationship with the actress. "It's part of the reason I started drinking," Affleck told Stern. "Because he was trapped," he assured then.

In this sense, Affleck has also wanted to excuse those words. "I had a really painful experience where I did an interview when I was really vulnerable, and all that came back was something that not only wasn't right, but actually the opposite of what I wanted to say," Affleck told The Hollywood Reporter.
