What urban and hybrid model has been proclaimed Women's Car of the Year 2023?

The Kia Niro, a hybrid halfway between an SUV and a family car, has been chosen as the Best Car in the World 2023 by the journalists of the Women's World Car of the Year. The choice of the car from the Korean firm coincides with International Women's Day, a date that serves to vindicate the role of women in all areas, including mobility, with examples such as that of Irati Etxandi, a young woman from 23 years old who works as a mechanic in a workshop.

The 63 journalists from the motor world from 43 countries and five continents crowned the Kia Niro as the Best Car of the Year after testing dozens of models and evaluating each of its details. In general, they agreed that the benefits, functionality and the different engine options offered by the Kia Niro make it worthy of succeeding the Peugeot 308 in the list of winners.

Before opting for the Kia Niro, the jury made public the results of the voting to choose the best cars in each category out of a total of 59 candidates. They were the following ones:

Once the six finalists were known, the jury announced the final verdict and proclaimed the Kia Niro the Best Car of the Year 2023. Marta García, executive president of the Women's World Car of the Year, highlighted the difficulties in highlighting a car above the others. five other finalists. “This year's election has been especially difficult due to the excellent level of all the candidates. Each one of the finalists had enough merits to win the trophy”.

Finally, and after the scrutiny, the balance tipped towards the Kia Niro, a "small and practical city car that gives you everything you need at a good price", according to the Indian Renuka Kirpalani, one of the members of the jury. “It offers an attractive design, quality/luxury and a range of engines where all drivers can find the solution to their mobility needs”, points out Sabrina Parant, from Belgium.

"It offers a functional interior, good driving performance and different powertrains, along with an attractive price point that make it an excellent choice for everyday driving," explains Jil McIntosh from Canada. “The Niro is smart, elegant, modern, efficient and slightly more spacious than the previous version”, elaborates Odiel Mennink, from the Netherlands.

The opinions of the experts ratify the sensations that those responsible for the Korean firm offer about the car. "The new Kia Niro makes it easy to lead a sustainable lifestyle, thanks to its ecological materials, advanced technology and electric powertrains, while meeting the practical needs of customers," says the Asian company.

The Kia Niro is an SUV that went on the market in 2016 and the second generation is currently being marketed. It is offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and 100% electric versions starting at 24,400 euros. It has a length of 4.42 meters and offers a spacious cabin, as well as the trunk, with a capacity of 475 liters.

As we explained on the Moveo channel, one of the peculiarities offered by the new electric version of the car is that it allows the battery to be used to charge other devices, both inside and outside the vehicle. In this way it allows you to recharge your mobile, an electric scooter or any other instrument that is powered by electricity.

The Women's World Car of the Year is the only international award made up exclusively of female motoring journalists. It was created in 2009 by the New Zealand communicator Sandy Myhre who currently performs the functions of honorary president.
