'Vies Verdes', the best way to go to Sea Otter 2023

What better way to go to a fair dedicated to cycling than by bicycle? From September 22 to 24, Girona celebrates a new edition of Sea Otter Europe, a fair dedicated to cycling where fans can learn about new products and try all types of bicycles, as well as visit the stands of the big brands present. in the Spanish market.

Two Vies Verdes and a pedal route pass through the Catalan city, managed by the Consorci Vies Verdes de Girona, which allow fans to attend the Sea Otter. They are paths designed for cycling in a totally safe way, suitable for all audiences and, in the case of the Vies Verdes, completely segregated from motor traffic.

As many fans will already know, the Vies Verdes are cycling routes that take advantage of old railway routes. This circumstance means that these routes are predominantly flat, with very little unevenness and hardly any curves. They are ideal for relaxed cycling in the company of the whole family. Especially ideal for the little ones to get loose on the two wheels.

Girona is lucky to be one of the few provincial capitals that can be reached by two Vies Verdes. The Carrilet I Route, Olot-Girona, allows access to Girona from the north, along a beautiful path that runs through some of the greenest regions in central Catalonia. The entrance to the capital of Girona is through the Deveses de Salt, to connect with the Fontajau area where the Sea Otter headquarters is located.

The other Greenway that allows us to reach Girona comfortably by bike comes from the south, from the coast. The Carrilet II Route, starts from Sant Feliu de Guíxols and goes gently from the coast to the capital of Girona along a beautiful and accessible track, although this time much sunnier. Both routes run along the railway route that in the past transported products made in the interior regions of Girona, such as those from the textile industry in the north, ceramics from Quart or cork from the Cassà de la Selva area, to be shipped on some of the ports of the Costa Brava.

Most of the cycle paths managed by the Consorci offer predominantly flat terrain without difficulties, similar to that of the Vies Verdes, but the former also include sections of secondary roads or tracks and paths shared with other vehicles.
