Summer will create more than 500,000 contracts, 2.3% more than last year

The summer campaign will mean the signing of 507,090 new contracts. The figure represents an increase of 2.3% compared to 2022, according to Randstad. In any case, the figures for 2021 will not be reached, a year marked by the reopening of activity after the collapse caused by the pandemic.

37.4% of the contracts signed will be in hotels and accommodation, while 28.9% in logistics. These percentages mean that two out of every three new jobs will belong to one of these two sectors, followed by commerce, restaurants and leisure. The hotel sector will grow the most this summer with 66.6% more jobs. On the other side of the coin, the sectors in which the volume of contracts will fall the most will be trade and logistics.

57% of contracts will be generated in Andalusia with 102,910, Catalonia with 57,750 and Madrid with 55,060. Although of these three, only the first autonomous community will increase the volume of recruitment compared to 2022. They will also gain more jobs in the rest of the communities in the southern half of the peninsula, with the exception of the Valencian Community: Extremadura in the lead, followed by Murcia and Castile-La Mancha. In the north, Asturias, Galicia and Cantabria will be the communities in which they will increase the most.

With respect to the regions in which the greatest falls in recruitment will be recorded are both the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. "Tourism is very active in these communities, instead of signing new contracts during the campaign, calls are made to workers with a fixed discontinuous contract, so that this drop does not mean a loss of dynamism in the sector," explains Valentín Bote, Director of Ranstad Research.

It is expected that hiring profiles with high availability and rapid adaptation will be sought so that they can enter with little time margin, since the labor market and its demands evolve quickly. For Randstad, one of the main problems is the shortage of talent, which makes it difficult to find professionals that meet the needs of companies.

According to Randstad's historical series analysis, the volume of contracts grew non-stop from 2013 to 2019, reaching 621,736. In 2020 the pandemic caused the figures to drop, the recovery was 42.8%, but it moderated due to the labor reform. In its analysis, the company ensures that "the total number has been reduced by the new formulas and by the dynamics of indefinite contracting that the new regulations have introduced".
