Nadia Calviño will replace Pedro Sánchez at the closing of the Cercle meeting on Wednesday

The President of the Government Pedro Sánchez will not finally carry out the closure of the XXXVIII Meeting of the Cercle d'Economia in Barcelona as planned. He will be replaced by the vice president for economic affairs Nadia Calviño. The change comes after Sánchez called general elections for next July 23.

On Wednesday, Calviño will deliver his speech after the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, takes the word. The conferences that take place at the W hotel in Barcelona have started today.

Although it is traditional in the economic days of the Cercle that the President of the Government participated in the closing session on some occasions, this has not been the case. Calviño was not expected to participate in the conference, although he has finally modified his agenda to be able to replace the president.

The new Cercle board of directors chaired by Jaume Guardiola had set itself the objective of reducing the number of politicians. Even so, it is expected that tomorrow the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, and the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, will participate. On Wednesday -in addition to Feijóo and Calviño- the Minister of Economy, Natàlia Mas, will also give a conference. Today it was the turn of the mayoress Ada Colau who has carried out the inauguration of the day.

In this year's session, the Cercle board also wants the interventions of the politicians to be interactive with the members and to be able to answer questions. In the last Cercle meetings of the previous years, the representatives of the Government used to deliver a speech without the intervention of the public.
