Layoffs by ERE in Catalonia shoot up 80% in the first four-month period of the year

Despite the good unemployment, affiliation and EPA data, in the first four months of the year the layoffs in a collective ERE process grew in Catalonia by 79.9% in relation to 2022. There were a total of 2,353 people who They lost their job that way.

When only four months have passed since 2023, the number of layoffs due to ERE is almost the same or higher than that which occurred in 2017 and 2018 as a whole. Last year, the number of affected workers was 5,205. In these first months of the year, the collective employment adjustments of technology companies such as Glovo, Wallbox or that of GI Group 2016 have stood out.

Although obviously the statistics do not detail the name of the companies, it is verified that one of the sectors where there was a greater affectation is that of "information technology services". The data can suffer large variations only with a large file.

The poor evolution of the collective processes of job termination contrasts with that of the ERTE (temporary employment regulation files), which have been reduced in the January-April period in relation to 2022. In those four months there were a total of 16,270 people with a temporary suspension of employment. They are 40.7% less than in the previous year. This drop is related to the improvement in the delivery of supplies, which has prevented large factories from having to stop due to lack of material or from stopping production for fewer days.

There has also been a decrease in the number of people affected by ERE of reduced working hours. In this case, it has gone from 2,363 last year to 894 this year. In this case, the decrease may also be related to the improvement of supply chains.

The employment regulation statistics only take into account collective dismissals. Not the ones that are individual.
