France will dedicate 2,000 million euros between now and 2027 to promote the use of bicycles as a means of transport and a good part of that money will be dedicated to expanding the lanes and specially dedicated tracks, with the aim of going from the current 57,000 kilometers to 80,000.

The plan presented this Friday by the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, contemplates spending 250 million euros each year to condition the roads. On a slightly more distant horizon, it is about reaching 100,000 kilometers of cycle paths in 2030.

The Prime Minister, who highlighted that 17,000 kilometers have been built in the last five years, pointed out in the presentation to the press that since 2019 the use of infrastructure dedicated to bicycles has increased by a third.

A good part of the rest of the money will go to aid for the purchase of bicycles, with the extension of the current devices, and also with an increase in the compensation of public employees who pedal to work, which will currently go up from 200 euros a year. to 300.

The State Administration has also proposed to equip all its work centers with safe spaces to park bicycles, which will also increase around the stations, from the 30,000 that currently exist to 90,000 in 2027.

The Government intends that the number of children from 6 to 11 years old who benefit from the courses to learn to ride a bicycle will multiply: Since 2019 there have been 200,000 and only in 2023 they should be as many to progressively increase to 800,000 per year from 2027.

It also intends to give a boost to the manufacture of bicycles in France so that production rises from 854,000 units in 2022 to 1.4 million in 2027.
