Cava employers seek more identity and prestige for the product

The cava employer (Aecava) has called on its associates to design its master plan for the next three years. A reflection has been opened with half a hundred wineries, of the 80 associates, about the immediate future at a time of turmoil, in full negotiations between the association Corpinnat and Clàssic Penedès, the producers covered by the DO Penedès, to create a new denomination of origin of sparkling wines from the Penedès.

During the sessions, topics such as the implementation of the DO Cava strategic plan by companies have been delved into; the role of the employer to strengthen the union of the sector or facilitate the relationship between the associates; as well as promote innovation, sustainability and digitization in companies.

There has also been reflection on the supply of grapes in the context of global warming and the management of surpluses. The conclusions will be presented next June. Among them, he will highlight the determined will to seek "greater identity, reputation and prestige" for cava, increase the average price and how employers can influence the DO Cava Regulatory Council.

In November, when he became president of Aecava, Joaquim Tosas explained that "we are facing a key moment in the development of cava, since we are in the first phase of the deployment of the DO Cava plan and we will need unity to give prestige to the digging". He believes that the unity of the sector is possible and he does not see, in the short term, the possibility that the DO Cava suffer more leaks.

In this sense, he points out that "despite the various business models, there are more things that unite us than those that separate us". He also wants to turn Aecava into a lobby before the administrations and social and economic entities "to convey to society the importance of our sector". He is convinced that this year will be essential for the future of the sector, "all or nothing".
