Cases in which the DGT will not charge you the driver's license renewal fees

Pass the Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV), have car insurance in order, pay registration tax, renew your driver's license... Driving a vehicle entails fulfilling a series of obligations and also bearing some costs. Some documents such as the driver's license or the ITV - it depends on the years that have passed since the purchase of the vehicle - are not necessary to renew them every year, although it is true that when the time comes you will have to pay their fees. In the case of driving license renewal, there are some cases in which the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) will not charge you renewal fees. Do you know what they are and why?

The first thing you should know is that if your driving license is class B, the license will be renewed every ten years until you reach 65 years of age. From that age, it will be renewed every three years. However, there are some cases in which the driver's license renewal can be brought forward and you will not be charged the general renewal fees.

If your driving license is about to expire, you can renew it up to three months before, as stated by the DGT: “you can renew it from 3 months before its expiration date. Bringing forward the renewal does not mean that you lose days of validity since the extension of your permit starts counting from the date on which the old one expired.

In general, the renewal of the driving license has a stipulated cost of 24.58 euros.
