BYD Dolphin, the Chinese electric car that costs less than 25,000 euros (aid included)

The BYD brand (initials of Build Your Dreams) defines itself as a specialist in electric cars. In fact, it is one of the world's largest manufacturers of plug-in vehicles, with more than 5.7 million units circulating on the planet's roads.

Built on the e-Platform 3.0 platform, BYD is committed to a distinctive aesthetic based on a new design language that allows it to achieve an elegant and unmistakable image. At the Dolphin, its creators claim to have been inspired by dolphins.

The Dolphin is available with BYD's lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery. It has a capacity of 60.4 kWh and a second option will arrive in 2024, with 44.9 kWh capacity. The innovative Blade Battery stands out for its safety, durability and performance, having passed the most demanding safety tests.

It is available with two trim levels, called Comfort and Design. Both versions share a battery with a capacity of 60.4 kWh and an electric motor with a power of 150 kW (204 HP). The approved WLTP autonomy is 427 kilometers and consumption is 15.9 kWh/100 km.

The charging speed is another of its strong points: it can be charged with alternating current up to 11 kW and, in direct current, up to 88 kW, recovering from 30 to 80% of the battery in just 29 minutes. In the performance section, the maximum speed is 160 km/h and the 0-100 km/h acceleration is 7 seconds.

During the first half of 2024, the Active and Boost versions with a 44.9 kWh battery will arrive. The Active model will have a power of 70 KW (95 HP), the autonomy can reach 340 km and the maximum charging speed with direct current will be 60 kW. In the case of Boost, the power will rise to 130 kW (177 HP), the range will be 310 km.

To achieve maximum efficiency, it has an integrated heat pump, responsible for carrying out intelligent thermal management for extreme weather conditions and allowing you to enjoy excellent autonomy at low temperatures.

The Dolphin has a length of 4.29 m, width of 1.77 m and height of 1.57 m. The 2.7 m wheelbase allows for a spacious interior, with sports front seats that are heated and electrically adjustable. The trunk has a capacity of 345 liters, expandable to a maximum of 1,310 liters.

The equipment is, without a doubt, one of the Dolphin's virtues. Among other elements, the top-of-the-range version has a panoramic roof. It also has adaptive headlights, V2L bidirectional charging technology with power up to 3.3 kW, etc.

In terms of safety, it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear collision warning, forward collision traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert with automatic braking, road maintenance assistant. lane control, lane change assist and preventive lane keeping.

The Dolphin also equips adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise control, 360º panoramic camera, blind spot detection, traction and stability controls, descent control and automatic hold on slopes and traffic sign recognition with speed limit control.

The new BYD model is on sale for 35,690 euros, a figure that is reduced to 32,690 euros with the launch promotional campaign. If the Moves III Plan is added, which includes a contribution from the brand, the final price could be 24,480 euros. Of course, BYD offers a 36-month multi-option formula, with monthly installments starting at 119 euros.
