Audi A5 Cabrio 40 TFSI S tronic, a perfect option for convertible lovers

Autumn is, without a doubt, one of the most favorable seasons to enjoy a convertible. The temperatures are usually ideal to enjoy, under the open sky, the charming coastal routes that the Mediterranean offers. And if we talk about convertibles, the A5 Cabrio is one of the most seductive alternatives on the market.

Equipped with the S line exterior finish, the Audi A5 is a car of exceptional beauty, a coupe sedan with perfect proportions and traditional lines that are combined with a long nose with a sharp and elegant aesthetic in its lines. The appeal of this vehicle is completed by a muscular and forceful rear end.

If these ingredients are combined with a roof that can be opened, the cocktail reaches maximum perfection. The feeling of quality and elegance are common denominators in a cabin that has capacity for four occupants. The driving position is exquisite, with all kinds of regulations to achieve the desired position behind the wheel.

Access to the rear seats is not easy, despite the large size of the doors. The width of the rear seats is good, but legroom is limited for people of considerable height. In any case, taking into account its condition as a cabrio, it has good interior dimensions.

The trunk, one of the weak points of any convertible, has a useful capacity of 370 liters, that is, 80 liters less than the A5 Coupé version. The loading height is quite limited, but it has considerable depth to store medium-sized suitcases and bags. The rear seat backrests can be folded to increase luggage space.

The A5 Cabrio top allows it to be opened and closed while driving, at speeds below 50 km/h. This is a very practical added value, since it allows you to choose the mode of travel without having to completely stop the vehicle. Logically, with the roof closed there is a little more noise and vibration compared to the A5 Coupé version, but in general it is well insulated.

We also liked its great connectivity possibilities, based on a state-of-the-art infotainment system. The 10.1-inch screen offers clean, simple graphics combined with an easy-to-use menu. For its part, the Audi virtual cockpit offers up to three display modes.

Moveo La Vanguardia has had the opportunity to test the 40 TFSI S tronic mechanical version, which combines a two-liter turbocharged TFSI gasoline engine with a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission. For those who want an energetic response, but without radical ambitions, this engine responds very well.

The performance of this engine is not exceptional, but the power delivery is notable from low revolutions. It comfortably exceeds 230 km/h maximum speed and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.

The light hybridization generated by a small 1.32 kW electric motor associated with a light lithium-ion battery allows this A5 Cabrio to enjoy the DGT ECO label. The approved average consumption is 6.7 liters per 100 km, but the reality is that it is difficult to obtain averages below 8 liters.

In terms of behavior, this A5 Cabrio maintains notable body rigidity and offers a high dose of driving fun, with a firm grip on any type of route and very high cornering. To achieve this, Audi has added strategic reinforcements to the structure.

The availability of different driving modes -Audi drive select- allows the vehicle's response to be adapted to different circumstances, but even with the Dynamic mode, discretion is the dominant note. For those who want higher performance, the 45 TFSI version increases power to 265 HP and adds quattro all-wheel drive.
