A reckless motorist crashes into a truck after repeatedly invading the opposite lane

A 28-year-old young man of Dutch nationality remains admitted to the ICU of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic in Ibiza after colliding with his motorcycle against a truck. As reported by the health center, the accident occurred this Wednesday morning at kilometer 8 of the Sant Josep highway.

The collaborative platform SocialDrive has shared the video showing the accident on its social networks. As can be seen in the recording captured by a motorist who was driving just behind the victim, the motorcycle driver was driving recklessly, repeatedly and without reason invading the adjacent lane where vehicles travel in the opposite direction.

The young man modifies his trajectory even when there is a continuous line that prohibits it. His behavior even hindered the overtaking maneuver that a van was executing, whose driver was forced to slow down so as not to take him ahead. The one who fails to dodge it is the driver of a truck that finds him face-first in a turn. Despite the fact that he brakes and leans towards the small shoulder available on the road, his reaction is insufficient to prevent the accident.

An Advanced Life Support ambulance, the Local Police and Civil Guard agents have come to the place. The emergency services transferred him to the hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with head trauma, facial trauma with maxillary fracture and dental fractures, left humerus and elbow fracture, as well as polytrauma.

It has not been revealed if the young man was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It should be remembered that these substances are incompatible with safe driving, since they interfere with the behavior and abilities of those who take them.

In our country it is allowed to drive with a blood alcohol level that does not reach 0.5 g/l of alcohol in the blood (0.25 mg/l in exhaled air), an amount that is reduced to 0.3 g/l (0.15 mg/l) in the case of novice and professional drivers. In no case will a minor driver be able to circulate on public roads with a level greater than 0.0 grams of alcohol in the blood, in accordance with the modification of article 14.1 of the Traffic Law approved at the end of 2021.
