A motorcyclist loses 12 points from his license in just three minutes for the same infraction

Speeding or inappropriate speed is one of the main risk factors on the road. According to data from the Directorate General for Traffic (DGT), one in five traffic accidents with victims can be directly related to this cause. However, many Spanish drivers systematically exceed the posted speed limits. In fact, two out of every three fines issued on interurban roads are due to speeding.

And the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), which has the powers to regulate traffic in Catalonia, finds itself with a similar reality. This same week, the Mossos d'Esquadra have shared on their social networks the case of a motorcycle driver who has been fined for driving at excessively high speeds.

The offender was penalized on April 23 on two occasions, exceeding, by far, the maximum speed allowed for the road on which he was driving. In the first of these (at 10:19), the motorcyclist passed in front of the radar at a speed of 208 km/h. After just three minutes (10:22), the kinemometer again detected the driver in the opposite direction, although this time he slowed slightly and went to 199 km/h.

The events took place on the C-12 highway, which connects Lleida and Amposta. As can be seen in the images that accompany the tweet, on both occasions the mobile radar is located at kilometer 100.8 of the road, in the town of Maials, which confirms that it is the same device. The section, by the way, is limited to 90 km/h, since it corresponds to a conventional road.

However, the driver must pay 600 euros and assume the deduction of 6 points from the driver's license for each of the offenses he has committed, considered "very serious". In total, the fines amount to 1,200 euros and the withdrawal of 12 points from the license for two offenses committed in just three minutes apart.

In addition, taking into account that the imprudence is committed on an interurban road, in which the maximum speed is 90 km/h, and that it exceeds it by more than 80 km/h in both cases, the motorist has also committed a crime against road safety, typified in article 379 of the Penal Code.

The consequences for the offender, as explained in the text, are the following: "he will be punished with a prison sentence of 3 to 6 months, with a fine of 6 to 12 months or with work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days” Likewise, it implies the withdrawal of the driver's license “for a period of more than one and up to four years”. The last word will be with the judge, who will decide the punishment imposed on the motorist based on the seriousness of the crime. For this, other factors will also influence, such as the driver's background or the consequences of his actions.

After observing the first of the two images presented, in which the motorcycle was captured from the front and in which the license plate cannot be seen, some users of the social network have expressed their opinion in the comments of the publication that the fine is not should be valid for lack of identification.

However, we have contacted the Mossos d'Esquadra to clarify the events and they have explained to us that, after going through the mobile radar for the second time, the offender was intercepted and notified immediately. According to his version of events, the two sanctions were attributed to him and he identified himself as the person responsible for both.
