Diary from coronaland: The young nurse the baptism of fire

the 28-year-old Emilie Haug Rasch is one of the danes, who still goes to work. She is the nurse with daily time at the dermatological department and the knowledge centre for wound healing at Bispebjerg Hospital. Although she was first trained in January 2020.

- It has been something of a baptism of fire, she says to Ekstra Bladet.

Here she tells about a day in his coronaland.

My clock rang the first time 5:20. At six o'clock I was off and then met up at seven o'clock. It is strange, that we still are one of those who must go outside a door. That my life just continues.

We currently have nurses training, there usually are other places in the healthcare system. They must be ready, if we suddenly start getting many new patients into sengeafdelingen here. I'm still quite novice, so I think a lot of, how all of a sudden I need to ‘learn’ otherwise experienced nurses up.

After the prime minister's recent instructions not to be gathered more than ten people at a time, we are very aware of how many we are in a room. So it is with to get out of the room, if one does not have a function in it. In general, we put a lot of to have distance to each other, because we are all, in principle, can be carriers. It is a strange feeling.

But the mood is good, and we try to encourage each other and keep your spirits high. We do not know what is going to happen, but you can really feel that people will want to be here.

the Day was different as I had to go to training at the end of my shift. At the moment provides you to upgrade the skills of nurses so that everyone can be ready, if there occur emergency situations. On the way home I wondered, that there were many people on the street. I can be a little stressful in this time, when there are many in a place, in fear that we infect each other. Mostly because I was already in a vulnerable position, if I give something to my patients. It is a stress factor.

I'm doing yoga, so I don't become too inactive these days. Photo: Private.

It is pretty wild to be a part of a subject, which enters in this way. I have always been proud of my profession, but now I understand really how much responsibility we bear.

I don't feel like a hero, even if some think it. But I do everything to live up to the responsibility as a nurse. I take one day at a time. And I feel sure we will be able to overcome it.
