Ximo Puig announces the approval of the tax reform without having yet closed the pact with its partners

The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, announced this Thursday in the control session that next Monday the Valencian Government will approve the tax reform. It will be, he has informed without explaining the content of the same, in an extraordinary meeting and more than a month and a half after the Valencian president announced his intention to reduce taxes.

In that same plenary session, it is expected that the law of fiscal measures, known as the Law of Accompaniment to the budgets, will also be approved.

An announcement that has caught his partners at the Botànic by surprise, since both Compromís and Unides Podem assure that there is still no agreement on the reform. They admit that "there are rapprochements" and the will between the negotiating parties to reach a consensus, but nothing is closed.

"It is a possibility, but for there to be an extraordinary Consell, the tax reform should be agreed upon and work is still being done on it today," they comment from Unides Podem.

The discrepancy between the partners comes from long. While the president announced in the General Policy debate his intention to lower income tax on incomes of less than 60,000 euros, his partners considered it necessary to complement that announcement with an increase in taxes on the highest assets.

A tug of war that the socialist leader is now trying to get off the ground with this announcement to pressure his partners to close the negotiation, with the intention that it have retroactive effects from January 1, 2022.
